Description
You are bidding on a collection of PDF files of high-quality scans of 14 WWII manuals on military cooking. There are 10 from the army and 4 from the navy. They say an army travels on its stomach. Well, here is how they did it - at least in WWII - and before the era of the MRE. There are several things I found startling in these books. For instance, the army field stoves were designed to run on the same gasoline the trucks used. That must have added an interesting flavor. The recipe book puts a different perspective on the art of cooking. For instance, here are the ingredients for "White or Vanilla Icing":"45 pounds XXXX sugar
8 pounds shortening
2 pounds butter
4 ounces salt
1 pound 8 ounces soft wheat flour
6 pounds evaporated milk
2 pounds ice water
10 ounces vanilla
Place all together in machine and beat until light in second speed. Never use fast speed."
